Photo Tips

If you have already booked your portrait with me then you have some time to choose the perfect picture!

How To Choose The Perfect Picture Of Your Pet:

When looking through your pictures and albums of your loved ones and pets, or taking a new picture yourself, there are a few key things to consider:

Good Lighting
Is your picture lit in a way that positively captures your pet?

True eye colour
Does the picture show the accurate eye colour of your pet?

True fur colour
Does the picture show the true fur colour of your pet?

Visible fur direction – can you see the fur in detail?

A good distance from the camera – is your pet too far away and hard to see?

Capturing Your Pet’s Personality

Try photographing your pet doing something they love to capture their personality.  If they are crazy for play time, try holding a squeaky toy or treats in one hand to help direct their gaze towards the camera while they are looking happy and energetic. If they are more of a couch potato, get down to their level and get a great snap of them looking to the camera with their soulful eyes.  You know your pet best, so just keep in mind their personality when trying to get that perfect reference photo!

Pets That Have Passed Away

If you are looking at commissioning a portrait of a pet that has sadly passed away I understand you may have limited photos available, but please don't worry - send me as many photos as you can and we can work through them together. I will need to see photos of pets that have passed before I accept your commission, so I can check I can work from your photos.

Here For Advice

If you are having trouble choosing a reference picture of your pet then please feel free to send me a selection and we can discuss together which would be good for creating your custom pet portrait.

Terms and Conditions of the Comission

Please ensure you have read my terms and conditions before purchasing artwork, prints and ordering a commission.

Deposits
A US$50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your portrait in list. You will be advised of the approximate waiting list at the time of ordering. Portraits will not be deemed as ordered until the deposit has been received. Payment terms will be provided in writing prior to accepting your commission and receiving your deposit. The deposit will be credited into the full invoice.

Payments
One week before I commence work on your portrait I will invoice you for 50% of the remaining balance. The remaining final balance will be invoiced upon completion and approval of the portrait and must be paid in full prior to your portrait being shipped.

Payments can be made securely online via bank transfer, Paypal or credit/debit card.

Cancellations
You have a 7 day money-back guarantee from the date of paying their deposit to cancel your order, in which time you will receive a full refund. Cancellations must be made in writing by email. Upon cancellation, you will lose your place on the waiting list.

If you cancel your order after 7 days have passed since placing the deposit, the full deposit amount will be retained as loss of business, to cover my time, administration, emails, mock-ups, payment fees. Any additional payment you made will be refunded in full.

If you cancel your order and work has commenced on the portrait, the deposit plus 50% of the remaining balance will be retained to cover my labor , administration, materials used.

Changes and rejection of finished portrait
Once the portrait has been completed, a photo of the portrait will be emailed to you for your approval with the option of making any adjustments and alterations without compromising the completed work, in line with your original portrait expectations. On receiving an approved portrait, you have 7 days to contact me about any required changes.  Once the portrait has been delivered, if the portrait needs returning for further alterations you must cover the necessary shipping charges both ways.

If you are still unhappy with the finished portrait after changes have been made, I am happy to send you a full refund minus the deposit plus 30% of the balance, plus the cost of any matting. The refunded amount will be paid after the portrait has been returned to me.

Loss/Damage in Transit
My portraits are packaged extremely well however in the unlikely event that damage occurs during transit plese send a photo of the damaged artwork immediately. The artwork must be returned to us and a new portrait will be drawn at no cost. The new portrait will be added to my client waiting list.

You agree that proof of delivery supplied by the delivery couriers is evidence that your portrait has been received.

Lead Time
I often have a client waiting list and lead time will depend on the time of year and number of other portraits booked in my schedule. I will provide an estimated completion date upon your enquiry. For specific dates (e.g. for a birthday) I will try my best to accommodate any special request.
